The gondola from Braunlage to the top of Wurmberg is 2.8km long ( 4km trail back). There is reliable snow cover at the top, which is close to the former Iron Curtain. There are good views of Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz region, and which towers above the tree-line.
Braunlage is the birthplace of skiing in Harz mountains. In 1890, Germanys first ski classes were taught here, and in 1892, the first winter-sports club was founded.
