Area Profile

A key resort in the Ski Welt, one of Austria's largest inter-connected ski areas, and now part of the larger Kitzbüheler Alpen Pass. Ellmau itself boasts Austria's fastest funicular railway to the serious slopes, with plenty for beginners by the traditional old village.

The fast funicular is a good way for 'boarders to access the heart of Austria's largest lift-linked area. Ellmau opened a new snow park recently and there are several more in the area, including the half pipe at neighbouring Scheffau. However the greatest concentration is on the Höhe Salve mountain above Söll, only a couple of runs and lift rides from the top of the funicular. The resort has a fun park with three half pipes. Further afield but still lift-linked there's another fun park with 80m half pipe above Brixen im Thale, which was first established for the '96 - '97 season. Westendorf has yet another funpark with half pipe.

The Ski Welt in general has a 'boarder-friendly attitude as well as some useful terrain including natural gullies and fun features that develop in the woods at the edge of the trails. Snowboarding tuition is offered by all three local ski schools and nightlife is generally better than most other Ski Welt resorts.
